Earlier this week I had a damn good night at the Highline Ballroom in NYC. I’m talking about the Roots & a live ass show for only $10, need I say more? If you are going to be in the NYC area this summer, you should definitely check out the roots jam session. Not only will you have the pleasure of experiencing the livest band perform in their purest form but you also get a musical taste test of up and coming talents that will make you write home to mama. One act in particular that grabbed my attention by the throat was Elevator Fight. If you are not familiar with the band, they are a six member group with lead vocals by, c.l.a.t.a. fashion muse, zoe kravitz (love her!!) This apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Zoe offers much of her dad’s (Lenny Kravitz... ooooh, you BETTER have known that!) rock-soul sound and stage presence; she combines this with the raw electricity of Karen O. The boys of the band parallel this energy with a refreshingly, galvanizing sound. Take a listen for yourself by hitting up their myspace page.
