SEBASTIAN LESTER: PASSIONATE ABOUT LETTERFORMS

My handwriting is pretty decent (only when it's in all caps as seen in my website banner), but illustrator Sebastian Lester takes the art of the written word to another level entirely in this video as he beasts a form of Blackletter typography that was popular in Europe from the 12th to 18th centuries.

It's creepy how steady and assured his hand is as he demonstrates this antiquated practice.  Seriously, beautifully creepy.

DEAR BLACKBERRY: IT'S OVER.

Well maybe not. Maybe your remaing die-hard wall street, business-y, troglodyte consumers that are still living by their Blackberry "smartphones" and will take that next step to a Z10 or Q10.

In a mad scramble to boost sales/notoriety of the 10 series, Blackberry appointed Alicia Keys to the position of "Global Creative Director" and paraded her at the Blackberry 10 Launch event last month in NYC.  I didn't think bringing a superstar on-board was going to particularly revive the fledging brand and apparently Forbes agrees with me (woot woot!!) stating:
While their new BlackBerry 10 phones have received good reviews, they are dramatically underperforming Wall Street estimates when it comes to sales...support in the U.S., where the new BlackBerrys are expected in mid-March, has been modest at most. (source)
 Blackberry CEO Thorsten Heins and
Global Creative Director Alicia Keys
Word on the Street is that Research in Motion, Blackberry's developer, is the process of renaming/branding the whole operation, so we shall see what fruit they choose next!! In the meantime the efforts to build excitement over the most recent Blackberry models are going strong with Ms. Keys at the helm. I tried to tell them tho....when it comes to the Blackberry brand: Don't Save That HO! She Don't Wanna be Saved.

Oh Oh ohhh, wait will there still BBM? I remember when that was allll the rage.

In 2006.

KRISTINA COLLANTES: AN IMAGINATIVE APPROACH

CLAIRE BOUCHER aka GRIMES

Collantes moved to the U.S. in 1997 with her family from the Philippines to bright and sunny Southern California, where her talent and ambitions flourished.  Her illustrations are widely lauded and have been featured in an assortment of publications from Vice Magazine to The New Yorker.

Colorful and engaging, her work possesses a certain weight that rival even the most stoic black and white, high contrast image. I was particularly drawn to her portrait series which lends a specific aura to each subject.  Check the Portrait images below and the rest of her work here.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN - Portrait of Julien, Prince of Darkness

TWIN BROTHERS IVAN AND GIO AGUIRRE

HAITI ROSE AND IGGY - A birthday portrait commissioned by Miranda Rhea for her sister, Haiti

PANTONE DECLARES EMERALD COLOR OF 2013

According to their seasonal color report, it is Pantone's will that we wear emerald the ENTIRE year, or else consequences.

So in preparation for this mono-toned year, here are a couple of my favorite emerald things I've found so far.

NOT AN OSCAR RELATED POST, SORRY.

This new shoot from photographer Karine Basilio is provocative, on-trend and primed to lube our eyes in the 100th issue of Brazilian independent magazine U-Mag.  I dunno about y'all, but around this time every year I anticipate the heat and excitement of summer. And these images only catalyzed those thoughts. These are some of my favorite shots, but you can check the full series here.  Enjoy them as I did.

CLATACLATA on muh mobile ISH

Cool this one is from my phone and this blogger app is waaaayyy better than it was in 2009 (when I last had it). My only remaining qualms are: can a sista get some courier font in this bitch?!

AAWW GEEEEEEEZZZ

I already have a gif of this baby sloth on FULL-REPEAT on my TUMBLR, but posting the actual video?!?!  I couldn't resist.

Enjoy.

After watching you're probably concerned about those sharp pains in your chest? Don't worry that's the feeling of the your stone-cold heart, hardened by the cruelties of the world, softening (maybe even warming up a little bit).

SUPREME SEX

I've been a fan of the Supreme lifestyle brand.  Just enough raunch, avant-garde style and humor to quell my fiery daily lustings.  Two of my favorite pieces from their Spring/Summer 2013 lookbook:

Should I feel some sort of way about this little black kid, is his image being exploited?!?  hmmmm...the tank is just so HOT tho...

BREAKING NEWS: JOE RICKEY HUNDLEY ADOPTS AFRICAN ORPHAN (lol j/k)

So glad that I wasn't on a flight with this fool Joe Rickey Hundley when I was a child.  I used to work my diaphragm during take-off, landing, whenever there was a shift in altitude and if the lady with the juice didn't come soon enough.  Check the video below explaining how Hundley slapped a little 3 yr. old for crying during their flight's decent into Atlanta, GA last week.

Home Again is a new feature film that highlights mainy of the pressing global issues of the day; the complicated Immigration landscape in the U.S. and how it affects undocumented individuals and the danger that women still face daily in developing countries around the world.

The film is based around 3 young adults, who were raised (undocumented) in America an and abruptly deported back to their home countries in the Caribbean.  Starring Tatyana AliCCH Pounder and Fefe Dobson, This films lends to the wholeness of the plight of the undocumented immigrant and how it infiltrates the African Diaspora.  Check the trailer directly below and a great interview with Tatyana Ali and CCH Pounders below that.

INTERVIEW:

RIHANNA for RIVER ISLAND

Rihanna recently unveiled her unmatched, wholly unique, totally individual fashion prowess (slight sarcasm) at London Fashion week a couple days ago. As Alex Frank put it, her looks are divided into three totally relatable looks:
1.) Strolling the beaches in Barbados
2.) Comfy and cozy chilling in the studio
3.) Going to the club

Within these three lifestyle subcategories RiRi's unbridled genius shines (more sarcasm).  Check footage of the show below (prepare to turn up) and pre-order your bad gyal thread on the River Island site.

"TUNNEL OF LOVE" - Ukraine

When in need of my daily weather fix, I always go to weather.com, because they have very comprehensive national weather news AND really compelling interest stories that always leave me a little smarter.  Today I was ensnared by the "World's 20 Most Interesting Tunnels," and so shall you.

"LAERDAL TUNNEL" - Norway

As much as I love tech, I think I love tech accessories more.  And these ZERO GRAVITY iPhone 4/4S/5 cases are more than sating my hunger.

BAMBI BOOM

Just happened across Bambi's photos on The Hundreds sub-blog "Meow".  Her style and body art is fire and so you invest yourself in her life. TWITTER.  TUMBLR.  GRAMS.

I WAS ALREADY GOING TO ATTEND HELLA 2013 MAD DECENT BLOCK PARTIES ANYWAYS

BUT THIS "HARLEM SHAKE" SONG (as seen on many youtube video responses) IS HOT.

I'm not going to explain the Harlem Shake viral phenomenon that has consumed the internet since late january, but if you're not in the know here's a pretty concise explanation from FADER.

Brooklyn produced Baauer, signed to the Mad Decent label, slayed this track and I can't wait to turn up to it this summer.

HUNNIDS HUNNIDS.

I've always been a fan of the LA based clothing label, because The Hundreds always reminded me of the lofty, effortless style that is instilled in almost every Californian.  My imaginary boo rocks all their new spring looks.

While the exhibit itself ended today (only showed from feb 14-17) and I only posted my three favorite images, but you can view the pieces digitally HERE.
